Yes, it’s really him! It’s SUPER Sonic, and he’s in Zone 1!

The Sonichosis trilogy may now rightfully be called as such! All my problem Sonic gaming comes to a head in this video, where the unthinkable becomes.. thinkable. You’ll see how the proud Genesis giant, Sonic 2, bows to the dogged will of a mere problem gamer, shattering all the mores of game design so caringly crafted by Sonic Team.

We may all know the outcome by this point, but the experience is in the journey. And oh what a journey it was.

Though I really appreciate the support of the faithful fans, I really feel like taking a break after this one. If it even sticks and I don’t find myself jonesing to make another video, it’d be just a short hiatus, and only from making videos. I still plan to keep this place updated with new writings and through other, less space-time-tearing activities. (EDIT: I think I may just wait til later next month.)

In any case, I hope you enjoy the show!

It’s been a rather ‘curious‘ week, for reasons of which you’re probably well aware–but more than anything, it’s because I have been unwilling to leave my DS unattended for any duration, and this for the first time in several months.

So, I will give you what I promised: a neglect update. Things aren’t looking good on this front–I’m not achieving the same level of neglect now that I’ve started “Sonichosis, Act 3“. Heck, I might even have it done tomorrow or the next day, in which case any neglect may be almost at an end.

There may be more Sonic in the future, but I’ll be glad to move on to new material for the time being. I hope this final act of Sonic’s obsessive outings proves to be an amusing frolic for you all

If you spent last week waiting on my failed promise to deliver the next part of the “Sonichosis” trilogy, I hope you waited just a little bit longer!

Sonichosis, Act 2 is here, and as promised, it continues the ‘Crazy Early Emerald Saga’ of Sonic 2 through Emeralds 4 and 5–that is to say, through Lampposts 4 and 5.

I paid attention to some people’s concerns that the videos were too long, so this one’s a fair bit shorter, while not sacrificing as much footage to editing.
Featuring a spiffy soundtrack change, more on-the-fly advice and secrets whether you asked for them or not, and as much witty repartee as a person can have when talking to one’s self, I hope you’ll thoroughly enjoy Sonichosis, Act 2*.

*I am again aware of a few slight production gaffes, including a strange audio quality issue with the MP3 encording, and subtitle overlay problems. I hope to fix these for a future release.

After a lot of practice and shaking off of years of rust, the captures are done and Part 2 is well underway. I learned that the Linux alternative isn’t terribly viable, and as with every time I come into prolonged contact with Linux, I direly need a vacation.

So If I told you I’d be done later in the week, let’s just say… the weekend counts. =)

Ba-dooom.

Okay, so I’m sure some of you have noticed a few slight production gaffes in Episode 5. Although they are technically minor, they’ll likely make a (bad) impression on new viewers. So I’m going to release a new version of the video, with fixes to the following:

-The title, which currently appears as “Sonichosi”, with the “S” appearing on the second line

-A more “viewer-friendly” series of transitions in the montage of blue heroes

-Audio sync in the video clip where I announce my plan to get Super Sonic

-Throttle Moviemaker to death… oh wait, that’s from my own personal To-Do list.

Just want to thank everyone who’s watched so far, and say that I paid attention to you guys–even if Youtube and Gametrailers won’t remember you.

How is this possible? Well, you’ll just have to watch this 10-minute feature (and the next two!) for the answer.

Whatever he might have been reduced to in later years, there was no one to match Sonic’s stature in his glory days. He OWNED an era. Even as the best-laid of all Sega’s plans, there was no guarantee that Sonic would be good for a second game, and moreover, that a second game would actually BE good (just look at the sequels these days).

But man, was it ever.

I really went all-out with this one, and I just hope I could do justice to my favourite game of the 16-bit era. Give 90′s Sonic all my love; he deserves no less.

There’s a more personal piece of Sonic lore I’d like to cover, though–a story a bit too long to fit comfortably into the episode. So while we both bide our time until the video, here’s a little something to hold you over. (Sorry if it doesn’t flow or transition all literary-style… it was just ripped from the script.)

MY first memories of Sonic come from the local Radio Shack, where a Genny with Sonic firmly plugged in stood facing out into the mall, playing all the various demos til the end of time. That’s when I knew I had to have some o’ dat.

Next thing I knew it was a certain Christmas day, and upon discovering that I now owned NOT ONLY a Sega Genesis, but also a Game Gear–both with Sonic 1 pack-in–my only response was to jump up and down, exclaiming, “I love it I love it I love it!” .. which has since gone down in home movie history. (and when I have the means to transfer it, you’ll see.)

Even though I owned what was, at the time, the ‘whole shabang’, you could bet that whenever there was a playable Sega Genesis at the likes of Canadian Tire and K-Mart, I’d be the first one there… as long as they were playing Sonic.

So that’s a little glimpse as to how much I loved Sonic. His brightest days are most probably behind him, but they will light my gamer’s path always… and every 5 months on a new Sega Genesis compilation, and every 5 months in between in an all-new crappy game …
