A 4-Star Resort for the Price of 5, but nothing short of Wii Sports 1 in fun

Summer can't fail me now.

Summer can't fail me now.

I played Wii Sports Resort for the first time a couple days ago, and I made sure to profit by the chance as much as possible, since I won’t be able to afford Nintendo’s MSPR (or “manufacturer’s suggested prince’s ransom”) in the foreseeable future. Having tried every event minus bowling’s “Spin Control”, which I like to think I don’t need anyway, my impression is that the the prevailing notions are a bit off: the weak areas aren’t all that weak, and if your chief concern is having fun with it, there may be no truly weak areas at all.

The intense sports and the ‘rancho relaxo’ camp are represented about equally, and every event was good for a once-over. My favourites are probably the Speed Slice under Swordplay and the Air Flight games (like there’s another kind of flight…), but there will likely emerge others as I improve at the more difficult-to-master events, which are numerous. I think that probably speaks to the longevity of the game, though. And after you’re through with all that personal improvement crap, I predict that Swordplay will continue to be a perpetual favourite at gatherings of 4 people or more forevermore….

…particularly if you have some pent-up rage against those people. >:)

After letting off stress in the more physical events, try wakeboarding and archery for a soothing mental-balm. There are pleasant echoes of Pilotwings 64in the Island Fly-By mode, and undeniable Wave Race appeal in the motorized water events. Frisbee is also a winner, thanks to an adorable Mii-dog.

So try ‘em all. Then you can get back to smacking the hell out of bamboo, cake, chronometers and AI-controlled opponents with your wannabe-Nerf sword.
